This spacious but cosy cottage is ideal for golf and nature enthusiasts, cultural and seaside holidays. Set on the banks of the river Boyne, the cottage is in walking distance of the beach, the renowned County Louth Golf course and the friendly 19th pub in Baltray and is just three miles (5km) from the historic town of Drogheda.

The Bunker’s traditional style makes for a homely, cosy atmosphere, while the extensive, open plan dining and living room provides ample space for larger groups.

Suitable for children and wheelchair users, all on one level with wide hallway and space around the beds, with super-fast fibre-optic broadband connection and a dedicated workspace, the house is well kitted out for work away from home.

Large garden (approximately 3/4 acre) affording views over the river estuary at the mouth of the Boyne. The house fronts onto a farm yard which, for safety reasons, is out of bounds to guests.

Linen, towels, shampoo and soap are provided. Guests should bring their own beach towels.

The neighbourhood

Along with the 19th hole pub, The Bunker was named by the original owners of the golf course. Sleeping nine, The Bunker is ideal for families and groups of friends.

A haven for golfers, the cottage is situated with very easy access to two 18 hole links courses. The County Louth championship golf course is a few minutes walk away in Baltray, while Seapoint Golf course is just three miles away in Termonfeckin.

Guests can immerse themselves in nature on the banks of the Boyne river. Wake to the evocative sound of wading birds on the Boyne estuary bird sanctuary or watch them swoop over the garden at dusk. The estuary teams with wildlife including curlew, egrets, lapwing, oyster catchers, shelduck, teal, wigeon, waders, divers and seals.

Baltray Beach

Enjoy the unspoilt sandy, shell strewn beaches at Baltray, Seapoint and Clogherhead or walk along the three mile strand which stretches unbroken from Baltray to Clogherhead passing the iconic ship wreck dug deep into the sand.

Making the most of Ireland’s Ancient East

The Bunker is situated in the lovely village of Baltray ideally situated to make the most of Ireland’s Ancient East with the ancient burial mound of Newgrange, the high crosses and round tower at Monasterboice, the medieval Melifont Abbey along with Drogheda’s many historical sites including Mill Mount museum and its Martello tower, Laurence’s gate and Saint Oliver Plunkett’s remains in St Peter’s church. The seat of the high kings of Ireland at Tara near Navan, the high cross at Kells and Slane castle are also all within easy reach.

Getting around

There is a regular bus service from Drogheda to Baltray (15 minutes) which runs through Termonfeckin and Clogherhead and all the coastal villages to Dundalk.
